The Top 10 filibuster falsehoods ... [Media Matters for America]
Events are set in motion, and next week we might see the Republicans eliminate the filibuster for judicial nominations. Frist has no choice; he had many meetings with James Dobson and the rest of the Religious Right theocons, making the following deal:
I'll kill the filibuster, if you back me for President in 2008.
What a whore.
Selling out 200 years of Senate rule for a chance at the White House. And to what end? Why is it Dobson and the Christocrats have Republican nuts in a vice?
Because if they can pack the courts (incl. SCOTUS) with partisan, activist, pro-life judges, they can undo by soft coup what they could never do with permission from the American public. Eliminate Roe v. Wade, public education, and restrictions on governmental religious favoritism. That's for starters.
And why would God-fearing, patriotic Republicans go along with that? I have no fucking idea, outside of a complete lack of integrity and an all-consuming fever for consolidation of power.
