Dubya Too Cowardly to Admit Mistakes

Bush says U.S. more secure, honors war dead - Yahoo! News

"'For those who have lost loved ones in Afghanistan and Iraq, today is a day of last letters and fresh tears,' he said. 'Because of the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform, two terror regimes are gone forever, freedom is on the march and America is more secure.'"

Today is a day to thank our veterans for their sacrifices. Dubya, unfortunately, could not resist throwing out a few lies and twisting history for followers of Dear Leader.

He tries to tie Afghanistan and Iraq together, because it is the only way to make war seem like a supported solution to a problem. We were attacked by bin Laden, we went to Afghanistan to take him out.

Of course, Bush really doesn't "think much about him," anymore. The real goal was war in Iraq, and once bin Laden served that purpose, he was forgotten about by the Bushies.

"Two terror regimes are gone forever," does he buy this bullshit? I guarantee you Cheney and Rove know better. Bush is probably the only one dumb enough in our country today to buy it. A guy so stupid, the military and Secret Service don't even bother to stop his bicycling in the woods when the White House is under perceived attack. No, better get FrankenCheney underground; we're going to need a leader if D.C. takes another hit.

Whether or not the terror regime in Afghanistan is gone forever is up to our ability to fix what we broke and the Afghan people.

In Iraq, we have created one of the nastiest, most experienced terror organizations in the world. Certainly, Saddam was a world-class asshole who kept his power by killing anyone who opposed him. There are a hundred Saddams in this world. But we should not be in the business of selectively policing the world based on the whims of a few chickenhawks.

If Dubya was sincere about his freedom goosestep, he would have stabilized Darfur yesterday. We could singlehandedly save the lives of millions of Muslims in Darfur without breaking a sweat, but we continue to ignore it.

There's no oil in it for us. There's no votes in it for Bush. The Religious Right actually frame the war against terror as a war against Islam, so they would never support it. And Southern Republican politicians could never explain it to their base.

So all we're left with is playing referee in an Iraq civil war we created; under the false pretense of making the U.S. more secure - while North Korea continues to build nuclear bombs and has the unique distinction of being the only hostile country capable of hitting us with a missle.
