If You Love Bush, You'll Marry Kyl

From a recent DSCC mailing:

"Quote of the Week

"If I have to disagree with the Bush administration, I will."
Incumbent Republican Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona, referring to the infamous Dubai Ports World contract

I'll admit it. At first glance, this is pretty bland for a Quote of the Week. However, what really makes it a winner is that the statement isn't anywhere close to true.

You see, Jon Kyl has a "presidential unity" rating of 96.6%, more than just about any senator running in a contested campaign this year. That means that Kyl has voted in lock step with George Bush's extremist right-wing ideology more than just about anybody else.

When it comes to the war in Iraq, Jon Kyl votes with George Bush. When it comes to the right-wing takeover of the federal courts, Jon Kyl votes with George Bush. When it comes to more tax cuts for the rich and more Medicare cuts for the middle class, Jon Kyl votes with George Bush. When it comes to letting corporate lobbyists rewrite and eviscerate our environmental regulations and our national energy policy in order to maximize profits, Jon Kyl votes with George Bush."
