Bush Using Tried-and-True Political Bait-and-Switch

Don't buy this claptrap...

The White House released the dogs on Murtha, calling him everything but Hanoi John. Bush has always made others do his smearing for him. He loves rolling around in the pig slop, but he doesn't want his fingerprints on it.

This was meant to be a perfectly timed retreat. The Sunday talk shows were going to be filled (well, "filled" may be a stretch as Democrats are not welcome on corporate media) with angry Democrats denouncing the disgusting tactics of the Republicans. With Bush singing "cum-ba-ya" at the precise moment many Americans were hearing of the Murtha attacks for the first time, he was hoping to score some cheap approval points.

Don't buy it.

Bush tries to cool tempers over Iraq - Yahoo! News

"U.S. President George W. Bush on Sunday all but apologized to a hawkish Democrat who the White House had called a liberal like American moviemaker Michael Moore for demanding an immediate U.S. pullout from Iraq.

Bush, dogged by questions about Iraq during a week-long Asia tour, tried to cool partisan tempers in Washington that flared over the withdrawal demand by Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. John Murtha (news, bio, voting record). One Republican had called Murtha a coward."
